Pescadores (2019)

PESCADORES ("Fishermen" in English) is a bay located at the edge of the Chorrillos district in Lima. Known for housing one of the oldest fishermen coves in the city, the bay is conjured by the many presences that flow throughout it and map out its breadth on land and sea.

This project was inspired by the deep, disorienting mist that falls over the city of Lima as a result of the clash between the Pacific Ocean's Humboldt current and "El Niño”, a meteorological oscillation that takes place in the Peruvian coast. By exploring how locals relate to their environment, I aimed to portray the multi-layered impact of this phenomenon over its hosts.

What lies underneath the foggy surface of the Pescadores cove encompasses more than a disregarded but fertile territory; it’s the materialization of kinship and isolation into the gaze of those who inhabit it. The result in photographed is the sentiment of distance towards the world when they look at each other and then turn to us, passers-by.
