No-Lugares (2018)

NO-LUGARES (NON-PLACES) is photographic series inspired by the book “Non-Lieux, introduction à une anthropologie de la surmodernité” (1992) written by the French anthropologist Marc Augé. In it, the author states that, while humanity’s evolution has imprinted social traces over different areas, these have been transformed to the point where their identities have become limited to a perception of mere transit or futile utility.

This visual approach explores how the humans’ contact with their surroundings has restructured their understanding of these places in accordance to Lima’s reality, reshaping them as non-places left abandoned: highways, stops and even dumpsters. Through these photographs from around the Panamericana Sur Highway, I intend to re-signify its notion in order to endow it of  a possible new reading and aesthetic value.
